20. Rick Moranis & Geddy Lee (Rush)

As a kid who grew up in the 1990s, one of our all-time favorite family movies is Honey I Shrunk the Kids. Its star Rick Moranis is one of Canada’s all-time greats. Interestingly, Rick has a childhood connection with another Canadian great, Geddy Lee, the bassist and vocalist of the distinguished progressive rock band Rush. They spent their formative years getting their formal education at the same grade school where they became good friends.

As Rick eventually made it big as an actor and comedian on the Second City Television, he would record a comedy album with co-star Dave Thomas as the Mckenzie Brothers. The comedic duo recorded the album under the same label as Rush. Knowing this, Rick sent an invite to his childhood friend, Geddy to sing back-up vocals for one of their tracks, Take Off. To Geddy’s credit, the song remains to be his most successful single, even more so than any of Rush’s songs.
