21. Samuel Beckett & Andre the Giant

Acclaimed playwright and novelist Samual Beckett is known for his distinguished works such as the play, Waiting for Godot. Having the degree of esteem that this man has, it would completely surprise you to learn that he used to drive around a young Andre The Giant – an actor and pro wrestling legend.

By the time Andre was 12 years old, he weighed over 240 pounds and was already 6 feet tall. Though this may sound like a good thing, the downside was he was too big to take his local school bus. Fortunately for the young Giant, his father was under the employment of Beckett, who at that time commissioned him to help build a cottage. As Cary Lewis, Andre’s co-star in The Princess Bride, fondly shares, Beckett started driving Andre to school in his truck. The truck most likely being one of the few vehicles able to carry a young giant.
